William Fitzsimmons

William Fitzsimmons is a Jacksonville, Illinois (formerly Pennsylvania) based singer-songwriter. William's career in music came only after completing a Master's Degree in counseling at Geneva College, and working as a mental health therapist. Prior to his graduate studies, Fitzsimmons worked with the mentally ill for several years. It was during a summer break in the midst of graduate school that Fitzsimmons recorded a collection of songs on home recording equipment which would subsequently become his debut album.

His first two full-length albums, 2005’s “Until When We Are Ghosts” and 2006’s “Goodnight” were completely self-produced and recorded by Fitzsimmons at his former home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. “Goodnight” is said to have been based largely on his parents' divorce during his adolescence.

“Passion Play” from “Until When We Are Ghosts” and “Please Don’t Go” from “Goodnight” were both featured during pivotal scenes in ABC's medical drama Grey's Anatomy.

His 2008 album, “The Sparrow And The Crow” was his first recorded in a traditional studio. That album was written entirely about and following his own divorce.

His 2010 album, “Derivatives” features several remixes of his original songs, as well as a cover of the Katy Perry pop hit, “I Kissed a Girl.” New Zealand folk-pop singer Brooke Fraser appeared as a guest performer on the album.

In 2011 he released “Gold In The Shadow” which marked his first entry on the Billboard charts, reaching #3 on the Folk Albums chart, as well as #24 on the Independent chart and #162 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. The song, “Let You Break” features Sixpence None the Richer singer Leigh Nash. The first single was, "The Tide Pulls from the Moon."
