David James Archuleta (born December 28, 1990) is an American pop singer-songwriter. At ten years old he won the children's division of the Utah Talent Competition leading to other television singing appearances. When he was twelve years old, Archuleta became the Junior Vocal Champion on Star Search 2. In 2007, at sixteen years old, he became one of the youngest contestants on the seventh season of American Idol. In May 2008 he finished as the runner-up, receiving 44 percent of over 97 million votes.
In August 2008 Archuleta released "Crush," the first single from his self-titled debut album. It debuted at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The single has sold almost 2 million copies in the United States. The album, released two months later, debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album was certified gold by the RIAA in January 2009.
In 2009 he released “Christmas from the Heart” his first Christmas album featuring classic holiday songs and "Melodies of Christmas", which was co-written by Archuleta, and is the lone original song on the album. The album went to #30 on the Billboard 200 chart and #2 on the Holiday chart.
In October 2010 he released a second album, “The Other Side of Down” featuring lead single "Something 'Bout Love." The song peaked at #48 on Pop Airplay and at #4 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. The album debuted at #13 on the Billboard 200 chart.
