Shinedown is an American rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed in 2001 and founded by members Brent Smith (vocals), Brad Stewart (bass), Jasin Todd (guitar), and Barry Kerch (drums). A few line-up changes followed and the band's current line-up consists of Smith and Kerch, the band's only two remaining original members, with guitarist Zach Myers and bassist and pianist Eric Bass.
“Leave a Whisper” was the band's debut album, released in July 2003. It peaked at #53 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart and was later certified platinum. It featured successful singles on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart such as the #5 hits “Fly From the Inside,” and the popular cover of the Lynyrd Skynyrd classic “Simple Man,” the #2 hit “Burning Bright” and”45” which peaked at #3.
In October 2005, the band released “Us and Them,” which went on to produce three singles, “Save Me,” “I Dare You” and “Heroes.” The lead single, “Save Me,” maintained the #1 position of the Mainstream Rock chart for twelve weeks straight, setting a record for the band. “Us and Them” peaked at #23 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold by the RIAA in November 2006.
Their third album, “The Sound of Madness,” was released in June 2008. A deluxe edition was released as well including three extra tracks, digitally. It was certified platinum and peaked at #8 on the Billboard 200. Their first single, “Devour,” was their second #1 on the Mainstream Rock chart. “Second Chance,” the second single was Shinedown's biggest hit to date reaching #1 on the Mainstream Rock chart and becoming their first Top 10 song on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart, peaking at #7. “Second Chance” has since gone double platinum. Other singles, including the title track, “If You Only Knew,” “The Crow & the Butterfly” and “Diamond Eyes (Boom-Lay Boom-Lay Boom)” were all #1 hits on the Mainstream Rock chart.
