The Raconteurs (also known as The Saboteurs in Australia) is an American rock band that was formed in Detroit, Michigan, featuring four members known for other musical projects: Jack White (of The White Stripes and The Dead Weather), Brendan Benson (solo), Jack Lawrence (of The Greenhornes, Blanche and The Dead Weather), and Patrick Keeler (also of The Greenhornes). The band is based in Nashville, Tennessee. The Raconteurs were renamed “The Saboteurs: for the Australian market when it was discovered that a Queensland band was already using the name “Raconteurs” and would only sell the rights to the name for what was deemed too expensive a price.
The Raconteurs' full-length debut, “Broken Boy Soldiers,” was recorded at Brendan Benson's in-home studio located in Detroit. “Broken Boy Soldiers” was released in May 2006, in the UK on Third Man Recordings/XL Recordings and in the U.S. on Third Man Recordings/V2 Records. It entered the U.K. Albums chart at #2 and the U.S. Billboard 200 Albums chart at #7. The album was generally favored among critics and spawned the #1 hit single “Steady, As She Goes.” The Raconteurs were nominated for two awards at the 49th Annual Grammys, one for Best Rock Album and another for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for “Steady, As She Goes.”
“Consolers of the Lonely,” their second album, was released in March 2008 on Warner Bros. Records in most parts of the world, and on XL Recordings in the U.K. The band did no promotion before the album's release, and its existence was only confirmed a week before. The first single from the album, “Salute Your Solution” was released on the same day. The album debuted at #7 on the Billboard 200, and at #8 on the U.K. Albums chart. “Consolers of the Lonely” earned a nomination for Best Rock Album at the 51st Grammy Awards.
