Backstreet Boys

Backstreet Boys is an American boy band, formed in Orlando, Florida in 1993. The group originally consisted of A. J. McLean, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, Nick Carter and Kevin Richardson. In 2006 Richardson left the group to pursue other interests leaving the group as a four-piece.

The Backstreet Boys released their debut single “We've Got It Goin' On“ in 1995, which peaked at #69 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. The single, however, entered the Top 10 in many European countries.

Their debut album, “Backstreet Boys,” was released internationally in 1996, and was certified 3x platinum in Europe, and diamond in Canada.

In 1997, they released their second international album, “Backstreet's Back” which continued their international success. At the same time, they released their second self titled album, a collection of tracks from Backstreet Boys' first and second international albums, in the United States. It peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart and eventually became the third best-selling album of 1998 and has been certified 14x platinum (diamond) by RIAA.

In 1999, the Backstreet Boys released their third and most successful album to date, “Millennium,” which entered the Billboard 200 at #1 and became the best-selling album of the year. It sold over 40 million copies internationally and was certified 13× platinum by the RIAA. “Millennium” was nominated for five Grammy Awards and spawned four Top 40 singles, “I Want It That Way,” “Larger than Life,” “The One” and “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely.”

In the following year, they released their fourth album, “Black & Blue,” which also entered the Billboard 200 at #1 and was later certified 8× platinum by the RIAA. The first single off the album was “Shape of My Heart,” followed by “The Call” and “More than That.” After the Black & Blue Tour in 2001, the Backstreet Boys entered a hiatus.

They released their fifth studio album, “Never Gone,” in 2005. The album debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200. “Never Gone” was certified platinum and featured the singles, “Incomplete,” “Just Want You to Know,” “Crawling Back to You” and “I Still...”

“Never Gone's” follow up, “Unbreakable,” was released in 2007. Peaking at #7 on the Billboard 200, it became their first album not to be certified in the U.S. This was also the first Backstreet Boys album that Kevin Richardson had no involvement in recording. “Inconsolable“ and “Helpless When She Smiles“ were released as singles.

The following album, “This Is Us,” was released in 2007 and became their seventh consecutive album to make the Top 10 of the Billboard 200, peaking at #9 making them the first group since Sade to have their first seven albums reach Top 10 on the chart. “Straight Through My Heart” and “Bigger” were released as singles.

The group has also released four compilation albums, including 2001’s platinum certified “The Hits: Chapter One.”

In the summer of 2010 Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block performed together at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and a joint tour commenced later that year. Known as NKOTBSB, a self-titled album has been recorded featuring five hits from each group, two new joint recordings, “All in My Head” and “Don't Turn Out the Lights,” and a megamix, which is set for released in 2011.
