Mindless Self Indulgence

Mindless Self Indulgence (MSI) is an American musical group formed in New York in 1997. Their music has a mixed style including punk rock, alternative rock, electronica, techno and industrial. Their name is derived from a solo album that frontman Jimmy Urine self-recorded in the mid-1990s. The group was formed when Urine was joined by fellow musicians Steve, Righ?, Vanessa Y.T. (who was later replaced by LynZ) and Kitty. Rather than signing traditional record contracts, the band has licensed most of their albums to record labels, retaining ownership of the music.

The band released their debut album, “Tight” in 1999. The album features a cover of Method Man’s “Bring the Pain.”

They made their major label debut for Elektra Records with, “Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy,” released in 2000. This was the last studio album to feature Vanessa YT as their bass player. In 2002 they released the live album “Alienating Our Audience.”

In 2005 they released their third studio album, “You'll Rebel to Anything,” the first to feature Lyn-Z on bass. It peaked at #107 on the Billboard 200 while also reaching #4 on the Independent Albums chart.

They then released “if” in 2008, which peaked at #27 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart, as well as #2 on the Independent Albums chart and #5 on the Alternative Albums chart.

A re-issue of their debut album, “Tight” was released as “Tighter” in 2011and reached #95 on the Billboard 200 and #11 on the Billboard Catalog Albums chart.
