Linkin Park is an American rock band formed in Agoura Hills, California in 1996 by Mike Shinoda (vocals and guitars), Brad Delson (guitar) and Rob Bourdon (drums). Joe Hahn and Dave Farrell were later recruited, and in 1999 Chester Bennington became a member.
Linkin Park rose to international fame in 2000 with their debut album, “Hybrid Theory,” which peaked at #2 on the U.S. Billboard 200 Albums chart. It was the seventh best-selling album of the 2000s, and certified diamond in U.S. and quadruple platinum in Europe. The fourth single from the album, "In the End," peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart (the highest of Linkin Park's career), and stayed on the chart for 38 weeks.
Linkin Park's second album, 2003’s “Meteora” entered the Billboard 200 at #1, becoming the third-best-selling album of the year. It featured the singles, "Somewhere I Belong,” "Faint,” "Lying from You,” "From the Inside,” "Breaking the Habit" and "Numb." “Numb” went to #1 on the U.S. Alternative and Mainstream Rock charts, as well as #11 on the Hot 100.
In 2007, their third studio album, “Minutes to Midnight,” also debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. The album was produced by Shinoda and Rick Rubin. Five singles were released from the album, "What I've Done,” "Bleed It Out,” "Shadow of the Day,” "Given Up” and "Leave Out All the Rest."
2010’s “A Thousand Suns” became the third straight Linkin Park studio album to debut at the top of the Billboard 200. A concept album dealing with human fears such as nuclear warfare, it was again produced by Shindoa and Rubin. Singles included #1 Alternative hits, "The Catalyst" and “Waiting for the End.”
The band has also released two platinum-certified remix albums, 2002’s “Reanimation” and 2004’s “Collision Course” the latter a chart-topping collaboration with rapper Jay-Z.
Linkin Park has sold over 50 million albums worldwide and has won two Grammy Awards for their singles "Crawling" and "Numb." The band has produced ten #1 singles on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart, and is the second-ever act to have at least ten weeks with three or more tracks on that chart. Linkin Park Underground, the band's official fan club, annually releases EPs with rare tracks, demos, live recordings and remixes.
